Rural Action Items

The proposed 20% cut to Rural Health Network Development Program funding was not enacted in the New York State 2018-2019 budget. We want to thank our supporters and elected officials for advocating on behalf of Rural New York State.

The resources below are only for archival/reference information at this time. They no longer require action.

Take action to protect rural health!

Governor Cuomo’s Executive Budget includes a plan for consolidation and funding reductions for thirty disease prevention, public health and health workforce programs, including Rural Health Networks (RHNs).  RHNs across NY State, including the Southern Tier’s own Rural Health Network of South Central NY (RHNSCNY), sustained a funding reduction of more than 21% in the last state budget.  If enacted, the additional 20% funding cut proposed for this year will force RHNSCNY and Rural Health Networks across NYS to drastically reduce services to their communities.

It is imperative that Albany lawmakers understand the value of these programs that save money and save lives.  Please join us in reaching out to Senator Fred Akshar, NYS Assembly Members Donna Lupardo, Clifford Crouch and Christopher Friend, and NY State Health Committee Chairs Senator Kemp Hannon and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried to request restoration of RHN funding in the 2018-19 state budget.

Below, you will find charts reflecting the impact of these cuts, as well as pre-written letter templates to NYS decision makers. Please help us in making rural voices heard in opposition to these detrimental cuts. The letters below are ready for you to download, complete with your letterhead and information, and pass on to our elected officials.
